Hi 👋🏻

Have you seen the videos where some people use female images or revealing clothing to attract your attention?

In ads, movies, and even on social media, certain kinds of faces and bodies show up again and again. After seeing this for a long time, it starts to feel normal, like this is just how people are supposed to look.

And people set a standard that if you don’t look like them, then you’re not beautiful or worthy to be perceived.

Even people are doing this with AI as well.

We are part of the system

It is easy to point at the media or big companies and say they are the ones creating these standards. They do play a role, a huge role, but they also pay attention to what people like.

When a certain kind of look gets more attention, it appears more often. When it appears more often, people get used to it. Then it gets even more attention. This keeps going in a loop.

Because of this, the system is not only controlled by a few powerful groups. It also grows through people like us.

This pattern is not new

Beauty standards have been around for a very long time. In different places and different times, people have had different ideas of what looks good. These ideas keep changing, but the habit of judging looks has always been there.

So it is not something that suddenly appeared. It has been part of human life for a long time.

And the problem is mixed with our blood.

The actual issue is how limited it becomes

The bigger problem is not that people care about beauty. The problem is that only a small type of beauty is shown again and again.

When this happens, it makes everything else feel less important. People who do not fit that narrow idea may start to feel like they are not good enough, even though there is nothing wrong with them.

I’m also a victim of it. You’re also a victim of it. And by using this insecurity brands sell us stuff our skin doesn’t need.

This is how pressure builds. It does not come from one place. It comes from seeing the same image repeated so many times that it starts to feel like the only option.

A more honest way to look at it

A more helpful way to think about this could be:

  • People will always notice how others look and judge them

  • What is shown again and again starts to feel normal

  • Showing more types of faces and bodies can slowly change what people accept, and inserting that beauty is inside, not in the face, will change it with time.

Thanks for reading 🙂

The problem is, it’s not a one-day thing. It’s been happening since the earliest days of humanity. So it won’t be sorted on day 1, but it will be sorted with time. Maybe it will take 500 years? But I can tell you it won’t be easy.

Not everyone judges you or defines you by your looks.

Thanks for reading G! See ya!

1 thing I learnt this week:

Venus has an extremely slow axial rotation, taking 243 Earth days to spin once, but only 225 Earth days to orbit the Sun.

Tool stack I use:

  • Fathom: AI notetaker + recorder.

  • Notion: My second brain.

  • Beehiiv: My newsletter tool.

  • Toggl: My time tracking tool.
