The free newsletter making HR less lonely

The best HR advice comes from people who’ve been in the trenches.

That’s what this newsletter delivers.

I Hate it Here is your insider’s guide to surviving and thriving in HR, from someone who’s been there. It’s not about theory or buzzwords — it’s about practical, real-world advice for navigating everything from tricky managers to messy policies.

Every newsletter is written by Hebba Youssef — a Chief People Officer who’s seen it all and is here to share what actually works (and what doesn’t). We’re talking real talk, real strategies, and real support — all with a side of humor to keep you sane.

Because HR shouldn’t feel like a thankless job. And you shouldn’t feel alone in it.

Hi 👋🏻

I am someone who is very fond of history, but as a kid, I didn’t like it that much because of the way our teachers and the education system taught us.

They installed this fear that history means remembering the years of events and all that.

But later, I understood that it was all rubbish. I found history to be fascinating.

And I have a bad habit. I developed it recently. If I get interested in anything, I’ll start a newsletter on the topic. So I started a newsletter and named it Oops History. But since I’m not able to focus on my primary stuff, I’m not writing it.

Similarly, a lot of things in my life have stopped due to a lack of routine and focus.

At the start of this year, I promised myself that I would work on my newsletters and learn Spanish. Because, you know, I’m a die-hard football fan, and my favorite club is Real Madrid.

Problems

I started learning Spanish on Duolingo, but then Duolingo started pushing Duolingo Pro heavily, which wasn’t the case when I was learning German in 2024.

So I had to quit midway because after every lesson, there was an ad for Duo Pro.

There are other apps like Babbel too, but they also come with a subscription.

Another big problem is that I checked YouTube, and most of the new videos are copy-pasted AI content. And you know how much I hate AI scripts or AI writing. But there is an amazing channel I found.

Also, there is a better idea than this. I used ChatGPT, and the voice feature is really, really amazing.

So I’m starting my Spanish learning journey again.

I’ll update you. I’ll spend the first 21 days building the habit, then I’ll go intense.

Thanks for reading 🙂

You know in the age of AI learning becomes very easy, so I gotta ride on that.

Thanks for reading G! See ya!

1 thing I learnt this week:

Despite being desert countries, Saudi Arabia historically imported camels and sand from Australia. The harsh, dry conditions in the Australian outback make its sand highly sought after in the Middle East for construction and industrial use, and to meet their local demands.

Book I’m reading:

The Laws of Human Nature, by Robert Greene. The book acts as a comprehensive guide to decoding human behaviour, understanding unconscious drives, and mastering self-control. Greene analyses universal psychological biases, flaws, and social dynamics across 18 distinct laws, utilising prominent historical narratives to illustrate each concept.

Tool stack I use:

  • Fathom: AI notetaker + recorder.

  • Notion: My second brain.

  • Beehiiv: My newsletter tool.

  • Toggl: My time tracking tool.
