Hola como estas 👋🏻

I have gained a lot of weight since I stopped going to the gym. And in 2026, health is my biggest priority.

I am feeling lethargic and less energetic, and that is why I am unable to perform at my best.

So, I thought of losing weight, but I do not enjoy the gym process. Once you become habituated to it and then leave, you tend to gain weight faster than usual. This happens because you burn fewer calories, your metabolism slows, muscles shrink, and if you keep eating the same way you did while working out.

Additionally, I often travel, so I am not able to be consistent.

So I thought of a different approach.

Calorie deficit

I decided to try a calorie deficit approach.

I was not aware of the exact number, so I went to a website and found out that I need 2,000 calories per day.

That means I need 14,000 calories per week. So if I consume less than 14,000 calories in a week, a safe number being around 11,000, I can reduce weight.

But I had a chat with my fitness friend, and she said that this is not a good way to approach it.

I also had other ideas in mind. I love sports, so sports could also be a way to burn calories.

However, there is one main problem. There is no proper sports environment here.

So I have started brisk walking and am trying to complete 10,000 steps every day.

I am aiming to lose 1 kg in January, although only 10 days are left.

Food

I consume millet and chicken twice a day. Sometimes I replace chicken with paneer or soya. I eat healthy and fresh food, so I do not think food is the main reason.

However, snacks could be a reason, especially late-night cravings.

The main reason for my weight gain

I identified the main reason for my weight gain as sitting in front of my laptop.

I sit in front of it for more than 10 hours a day. So I searched for this on Google, and Google AI said this.

Yes, sitting in front of a laptop for long periods can lead to weight gain. While the act of sitting itself does not directly cause fat accumulation, it creates a sedentary environment that promotes it through reduced physical activity, slower metabolism, and habits often associated with desk work.

That is why my fitness friend suggested that I keep moving my body every 30 minutes.

I have been trying to do that.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Book I’m reading this week:

Siddhartha

by Hermann Hesse

It is the story of Buddha’s spiritual journey towards truth, enlightenment, and self-discovery.

1 thing I learnt this week:

While researching more about calorie deficit, I learned that there is no such thing as zero-calorie foods. Even low-calorie foods, such as celery and watercress, contain more energy than the body needs to process them.

Tool stack I use:

  • Fathom: AI notetaker + recorder.

  • Notion: My second brain.

  • Beehiiv: My newsletter tool.

  • Toggl: My time tracking tool.
