Hi 👋🏻

My father taught me to save money from childhood, but as a kid, I never truly understood its value.

I had a small container, actually an old medicine container, where I used to drop ₹1, ₹2, and sometimes even ₹20. It may sound like a very small amount now, but I am talking about the 2007 to 2010 period.

My maternal grandfather used to visit our house sometimes, and he would give me ₹10 or ₹20. He is no longer with us, and I still miss him.

My father always made sure that I never spent a single rupee the wrong way.

My morning

I always had an inconsistent routine. Sometimes I used to wake up early for tuition, and sometimes quite late. But when I was around 8 or 9 years old, I developed a bad habit of waking up late. So my father started offering me ₹2 if I woke up at 6 in the morning. It used to be cold, but for those ₹2, I would still wake up and put the money into my little container.

But even after the ₹2 reward, I could not stay consistent, and eventually my father stopped trying.

Habit

People say it takes 21 days to build a habit, and in 2023, I read James Clear’s book to become more serious about the habits I was choosing, so I could become the best version of myself over the next five years.

It has been almost three years now, and guess what? I have developed several good habits, but I have also picked up more bad habits than good ones.

And I am not ashamed to admit that waking up late is one of them. No matter how much I try, I cannot sleep before 1 or 2 a.m. I wake up late, go to the gym late, and as people say, the morning sets the tone for the day. Because of that, many of my days feel dull.

Financial discipline

I became disciplined with money because of poverty and my father’s guidance from an early age. Today, even if I spend ₹1, I log it in Notion. And guess what? I have never spent money on completely useless things.

Yes, I have wasted some money because I got scammed or because I was undisciplined at times. But my core discipline has always made sure that I do not waste my hard-earned money.

I want you to do the same. Never waste even a single rupee.

Thanks for reading 🙂

Although I do not do anything to become more ‘social’ or ‘acceptable’, it is very unlikely that someone can provoke me into wasting my money. My life may seem boring, but I stick to my basics. It always helps.

Thanks for reading G! See ya!

1 thing I learnt this week:

A day on Venus is longer than a year on Venus. Because Venus spins so incredibly slowly on its axis, it takes 243 Earth days to complete just one rotation, but only 225 Earth days to complete a full orbit around the Sun!

Tool stack I use:

  • Fathom: AI notetaker + recorder.

  • Notion: My second brain.

  • Beehiiv: My newsletter tool.

  • Toggl: My time tracking tool.
